The outdoor piece that I am exhibiting at the 2008 Krasel Biennial Sculpture Invitational is titled Widow’s Watch. The title refers to the place where people looked out over the water for signs of a loved one’s returning ship to come into view. The structure is topped with a crow’s nest that is filled with fabricated forms and objects associated with seamanship. The collection of objects includes a Jacob’s ladder, canteens, dry storage containers, structural elements, driftwood, and dunnage. The materials and fabrication techniques that I used are typical of the 19th century.
